Because You Love New French Pop: Malajube – “Port Disparu”

I never got into French band Malajube’s last record but their new single “Porté Disparu” from their upcoming album Labyrinthes has a great Arcade Fire/Gainsbourg quality to it. It’s all-around epic and the production is stellar.

Give it a stream, won’t you?

Listen to Malajube – “Porté Disparu” on the Dare to Care Radio.

Labyrinthes is out Feb 10th on Dare to Care.

Cool New Music From Toronto: Little Girls – “Venom”

“Venom”, the b-side of Little Girls debut 7″ Youth Tunes is an up-tempo tune but it feels like it’s moving in slow motion. The bare-bones rhythm combined with buried vocals give it an almost “haunted” sound. This is pop music on painkillers.

Download the a-side from their MySpace page.

Recommended Americana: The Lisps – “Brackish Water”

The Lisps are an extremely talented and relatively new band from Brooklyn who describe themselves so wonderfully as an “assemblage of 21st century indie-rock vaudevillians writing songs about science and love, space and pain, babies and documents”. Wow, indeed.

The moody “Brackish Water” from last year’s debut Country Doctor Museum is just as wow, with gorgeous vocals and delicate Americana arrangements. Fans of She and Him should DEFINITELY have a listen…

Oh and did I mention that the band have also recently created an ambitious musical about a Civil War Union soldier/aspiring sci-fi writer entitled Futurity? Wow times 1000.

Country Doctor Museum is available now on Amazon.

Loving This: Little Majorette – “London”

The song “London” by unsigned Swedish band Little Majorette has tickled my eardrums this morning with its charming blend of loopy jazz, bossa nova and hip-hop (think Lykke Li, El Perro Del Mar, PB&J, etc). Singer Zoe Durrant does a great job of convincing me to join the party in The Big Smoke, but then again with that voice she could convince me of a lot of things…

Head over to their MySpace page for more tunes.

New: Steinski Vs. Reverend Lowery – “None Shall Be Afraid” (Obama Benediction)

Whenever something monumental happens in the world of politics, or the world itself for that matter, rest assured that the legendary Steinski will have something to say about it.

Tuesday’s historical inauguration was no exception. Check out his new “rough” track that mashes tribal rhythms with Civil Rights leader Reverend Joseph Lowry’s resonant Obama benediction. It’s both celebratory and evocative, slightly reminiscent of Eno and Byrne’s My Life in the Bush of Ghosts.

Bang A Drum to Peace In’s “Pyramid of Sun in the Heavens”

Now I’m not a religious person by any means, but I’m definitely digging PEACE IN’s quasi spiritual, psychedelic hymn “Pyramid of Sun in the Heavens” from this Brooklynite’s newest album
Feather and the Electric Mountain. It has a polyrhythmic tribal sound similar to Liars’ Drums Not Dead with a buzzing Silver Apples-esque melody.

Feather and the Electric Mountain is available now from PEACE IN’s MySpace Page.

Hot Chip Cover Joy Division’s “Transmission”

Covering Joy Division’s classic “Transmission” is no easy task and most bands just don’t have the guts, but don’t tell that to Hot Chip. Their spooky, minimalist interpretation is definitely ballsy in that “let’s not just try to emulate the original” kind of way.

Stream it on Stereogum.

The song can be found on War Child: Heroes, a new compilation featuring current artists covering iconic music of the past. Read more about it here.

ABC’s Charlie Gibson and P’Forks Ryan Schreiber Love Eachother, Plan to See Animal collective Together

Do not adjust your browser you are about to watch ABC’s Charlie Gibson introduce a new and very unnecessary indie music series on ABC’s website where P’fork’s Ryan Schreiber will inarticulately try to sell old people on music he thinks will be cool in ‘09.

No, I’m not kidding. Watch it here.

Stream Fever Ray’s New Album Before You “Buy It”

You and I both know that there are people out there who, though they support Fever Ray’s music, aren’t going to actually buy it, because they will probably snag it from a friend or from some cooler-than-cool message board. Something that you or I would NEVER EVER do. Right? Right.

Stream it in full on Klicktrak. Tis good.

Rollercoaster Project Loves Rollercoasters and Halloween III

Um yea just so you guys know (in case you didn’t.)Halloween III: Season of the Witch is the one film in the series where the producers said to themselves, “Screw Michael Myers, let’s just replace him with brainwashing commercials, men in suits and stonehenge!” This, in case you didn’t know, is ballsy and awesome. So when checking out Rollercoaster Project’s MySpace thanks to XXJFG, I was stoked to see that his main image was the poster from said movie. NOICE! Oh yea, and this song is pretty rad too…

His debut album Revenge will be released whenever he decides to release it. Maybe you could just message him for a copy.

New Handsome Furs Song is Quite Handsome…

…and sexy and fun. Yes, kind of like the above photo of Handsome Furs bandmates/luffuhs Dan Boeckner (Wolf Parade) and Alexei Perry.

“I’m Confused” from their upcoming record Face Control features AP’s electro beats crossed with DB’s shreddy guitars and get-up-out-of-your-seat vocals. It’s the kind of song that you dance around your bedroom in your underwear to. YOU, not me. I would never ever do anything like that, ever. I take music very seriously, guys.

Face Control is due out 1/3 on Subpop.
