What do couches with teeth, cycloptic lobsters and talking t-shirts have in common? They are all featured in Towa Tei’s (former member of Dee-Lite) new video for “Mind Wall”. It’s Sim City meets Dire Straits “Money For Nothing” with a heavy dose of peyote. Weird shit, man:
Oh that crazy girl Fever Ray. She just loves making creepy videos that I always end up posting. In this one a chick is on a diving board summoning spirits or maybe she is just warming up for an amazing cannonball. You decide:
Sister Suvi’s “Desolation” reminds me of the 90s band Brainiac, except less insane. I’m not sure if that’s a good thing or a band thing, but I like the energy of the song regardless. BONUS: guitarist Patrick Gregoire can also be heard playing with other Canadian indie favs Islands.
Sister Suvi’s debut album Now I Am Champion will be set free this Spring. Catch them on tour with Walrus alums Takka Takka. They stop by Philly on 3/16 @ Kung-Fu Neck Tie.

Luminet happen to be from Delaware (”Hi, they’re in Delaware“) and they also happen to have written a cool little tune called “Plan B”. It’s has a Magnetic Fields meets Suicide sound, which is awesome, but I recommend that you DO NOT play it or put it on a mixtape for your girlfriend on this “holiday”.
Luminet are currently unsigned, but do have an album out called Let’s Dream, which you can stream/buy on their website.

Contrary to the band name, In the Red’s newest signings The Strange Boys have a rather straight-forward garage blues thing happening, which is always nice to hear. Also, the more I listen to this song, the more Ryan Sambol’s vocals sound like Jay Reatard impersonating Bob Dylan. Good stuff.

The video for Max Tundra’s last single “Will Get Fooled Again” was the funniest of the year in my opinion and although his second single from Parallax Error Beheads You has no accompanying video (yet) the song is Max’s usual fun mix of electro-pop. Fans of bands like Chromeo should get to downloading…
Max Tundra will be touring the US with Junior Boys this Spring. The “Which Song” digi-single with 2 B-sides is out March 31st and the album is out now courtesy of Domino.

I have been searching for new music that sounds like TVO’s “Dwyer” for weeks now and…wallah! Some call this micro-house or IDM, but I just call it moody instrumental electronic music that is perfect to listen to while working (esp. if you work all day on the computer)
Ah, the oh so endearing qualities found in Hot Lava’s brand of psych-pop are brought to life on the small screen by Sheepfold Productions in this super lo-tech video for their song “Blue Dragon” which features toys, cheap-o props and veggies…
Comin’ atcha…
Their debut album Lavalogy is out now on Bar/None.
Bibio aka Brit Stephen Wilkinson has one foot on the natural world and another in the synthetic. “Weekend Wildfire” from the new Vignetting The Compost album is a gorgeous instrumental that incorporates traditional folk and smokey, seemingly electronic soundscapes. Listen as things rise and slowly dwindle away. Beautiful. Oh and one of the guys from Boards of Canada is a big fan…so there’s that.
Vignetting The Compost is out now on Mush Records. Preview it on Amazon.

…and so is The Walrus…with a new fan page! You may be asking yourself, “what the hell took you so long?” Well, my answer to that will be posted on Myspace’s bulletin board tomorrow. So check it out! Also, stay tuned next week when I post a link to our all new Friendster page! Yay!
I’m really getting into the recent trend of videos that incorporate clips from B-movies and other weird archival footage (here and here).
This video commissioned by the blog 20jazzfunkgreats and directed by Tommy Boy is no exception. It’s for the newish electro-pop band Telepathe and according to Tommy the footage is pulled from the 1980 PBS sci-fi movie called Lathe of Heaven as well as Brainstorm (Natalie Wood’s last movie), Millennium, National Geographic, and Scanimate. Cool!
