The New Time are shaping up to be one of the best new bands in Philly and this new song/video with its bluesy, southern sound and cute girls in short-shorts performing a mixture of modern and swing dance moves doesn’t disappoint.

This new track from Oklahoma’s Starlight Mints essentially sounds like The Pixies on downers. Mellow-psych at it’s finest. Always liked these guys.

Morr Music, one of my all-time favorite record labels, has just released a stellar tribute comp of ’80s Kiwi Pop called Not Given Lightly – A Tribute To the Giant Golden Book Of New Zealand`s Alternative Music Scene that you should pick up right away. This track by It’s A Musical is one of my favorites from the comp:

Jay Reatard’s music has gotten progressively more poppy over the years since the fierce Blood Visions…and I don’t particularly mind. This new one from his upcoming and first official Matador LP is a re-recording of a previous single, now with a new poppy sheen. Does it work? It gets my head noddin’, so yes.

Wow! This looks awesome! I definitely love me some Brazilian music – especially ’60s/’70s Psychedelia and Samba so I am looking forward to seeing this one. Essentially Beyond Ipanema: Brazilian Waves in Global Music (named after the song performed by Astrid Gilberto) documents the effect that Brazilian music has had on America and the world through the years — and it’s huge. The film features appearances by David Byrne, Diplo, MIA, Gilberto Gil and more:

Golden Ages is a new band from Philly with a sound you may be familiar with (think M83, Animal Collective). The song is head-trip as is the free EP. (Mediafire Download)

Once again, the gang from Sulimay’s in Fishtown give their unabashed opinions on modern music. This time it’s Grizzly Bear and Iggy Pop…
I agree with the Ann on the Grizzly Bear song, but what the f*ck is she wearing on her head??

Bachelorette is not a new band, per se (they have a few releases already), but their new record My Electric Family is quite good. This track is particularly awesome, landing somewhere in between Broadcast and Bat For Lashes…
