Seattle’s Mt. St. Helens Vietnam Band not only have the best band in the world, but also have a great live show. Despite not being able to totally cut loose as they would normally, their session at Art in the Age was still impressive. The new material, especially this song entitled “Hurrah”, leans more psychedelic/prog-rock. Love it!

As you can see I am really into The Big Pink, especially this song. The video features the band performing, a hot girl made of glass shattering in slo-mo, and NO SIGN OF ANY DOMINOS ANYWHERE. Metaphors, like WHOA!

Every so often I visit the blog Swedesplease and dig around for the new Swedish pop that catches my ear. Recently I discovered this little gem from Masquer, which sounds like what you might have heard during a sad, slow-motion montage in a lost John Hughes movie (RIP).

Memory Cassette aka Memory Tapes aka Weird Tapes aka Pick a Name Already is blowing up and for good reason. He writes blissed out electronic pop that is easy to listen to. Here is a video for “Surfin/Body of Water” that is essentially an ode to ’80s sex-pot Tawny Kitaen aka the girl in that White Snake video that humps a car. Yeeeoooww!!!

And this one for “Asleep at a Party” is a bit more serious and my favorite of the two. It just seems to mesh better with the song:

Faster than you can say Victoria Bergsman is adorable, Jersey’s Memory Tapes aka Memory Cassette has released his own version of the gorgeous new Taken By Trees single “Watch the Waves” (get the original here). It’s more airy with some beautiful string arrangements and a muted electronic beat.
