• Despite his passing, Patrick Swayze will always be with us in films and HIP-HOP {Hip Hop is Read}

The Flaming Lips brought their new single to The Colbert Report this week and let the world’s only charming conservative stream their new album in full on his website for a limited time only. Maybe Republicans aren’t so bad? Eh, who am I kidding? {Pitchfork}

• Matt Picasso talks to Will Cullen Hart of Olivia Tremor Control and Circulatory System fame. ME WANTS NEW OTC MUSIC NOW!!! {YANP}

• The classic Spiritualized album Ladies and Gentlemen…is getting the re-issue treatment with a Special edition version sporting 12 mini-discs packaged like prescription pills. Duuude, drugs are so cool again. {Pitchfork}

BONUS: If you are in Philly this Saturday, you have two sweet options for shows: awesome Swedish band The Sounds at the TLA or Philly’s own excellent Gildon Works at Johnny Brenda’s. If you got talent you may be able to make both.

Friday Fun: Breakin’ 2: Electric Boogaloo Soundtrack (MP3s)

breakin2

Despite having the greatest title in all of film history, Breakin’ 2: Electric Boogaloo, the sequel to the classic ’80s break-dancing movie, failed to live up to the original (surprise!). However, like its predecessor it did have a an awesome soundtrack and it did feature another guest cameo from Ice-T. Fact: Anything featuring Ice-T is automatically awesome. Here are two of my favorite tracks from the soundtrack, which scream motivational ’80s bubblegum electro and are perfect for ABSOLUTELY NOTHING except dancing while rollerskating OR just being stoked on life.

{MP3} Mark Scott – “I Don’t Wanna Come Down”
{MP3} Carol Lynn Townes – “Believe in the Beat”

The actual soundtrack disc is rare, but you may find more mp3s floating around on torrents. Read another review of the soundtrack and watch the trailer for the film here.

MP3: Generationals – “When They Fight, They Fight”

generationals

I’m loving this Generationals 7″. The song’s sunny disposition and early ’60s style arrangement. It’s like a sedated Go! Team for the mellow set.

{MP3} Generationals – “When They Fight, They Fight”

The 7″ and album from which it is taken, Con Law, are available now at Park the Van.

MP3: Bipolar Bear – “Goth Time Rag”

bipolarbear

Bipolar Bear’s fun surf-rock tune “Goth Time Rag” from the new album Harlem Pripyat is ALMOST as good as their name…

Awesome Video: Black Mold – “Metal Spiderwebs” + New Chad VanGaalen B-Side

Here’s a new video from Chad VanGaalen’s side project Black Mold. The “sketch book doodles come to life” animation (created by VanGaalen) reminds me of the films One Crazy Summer and Better Off Dead…except no cute and fuzzy bunnies.

While we are on the subject Mr. V, here’s a choice mp3 from the free album of Soft Airplane B-Sides that VanGaalen just released on his website:

Videos: Kanye West/Taylor Swift VMA Incident + THE REMIX!!!

Sure, by now you may know that Kanye West pulled a douchey move at the VMAs last night and ruined a magical moment for the young country-pop star Taylor Swift. Not that I give a shit about either of them or the VMAs, but it was definitely entertaining, and undoubtedly rude. In case you missed the “diss heard ’round the world”, watch it below:

Yeeeaaa, Kanye shame on you, blah blah blah… Now, the beauty of the YouTube world in which we live is not that this clip was available for all to see almost immediately after it happened, but that it was remixed with another recent pop culture moment, brilliantly I might add, just as quickly. WATCH:

HILARIOUS!

I’m sure there will be more to come. Add them in the comments when you find them!

On Repeat: Kid Cudi – “Pursuit of Happiness” (ft. MGMT + Ratatat)

kidcudi

I haven’t been able to stop listening to this track since Saturday. Kid Cudi may have been snubbed at the VMAs this year for Best New Artist (not that that has any dictation on quality, whatsoever…in fact it’s known to be the kiss of death) but me thinks he has a hit on his hands with this one…

Bonus: Live version from the David Letterman show:

“Pursuit of Happiness” is from Kid Cudi’s new album Man on the Moon: The End of Day, out tomorrow, 9/15.

New MP3: Diamond Rings – “All Yr Songs”

diamondd

Toronto’s Diamond Rings aka John O. has released a charming little electro-acoustic love song that sounds nothing like the way his MySpace page looks (or the pic above for that matter), which may or may not be a good thing.

’80s MP3: The Jean Paul Sartre Experience – “I Like Rain”

jpseilikerain

It’s pouring here in Philadelphia at the moment and this simple, beautiful song from ’80s New Zealand band The Jean Paul Sartre Experience romanticizes what most people see as an annoyance. “I Like Rain” was featured on their 1988 Flying Nun-released album Love Songs and has recently been covered, very well I might add, by Lali Puna and members of The Notwist on Morr Music’s compilation Not Given Lightly…

The Best Worst Voices In Indie Rock

Paste Magazine picks the best worst voices in indie rock — “the kind that isn’t classically good, but its technical problems just make it more lovable.”

I’d like to add Kurt Heasley of The Lilys please.
