It’s been said before, but The Ballet’s “The House on Fire” recalls Magnetic Fields with a healthy injection of electro-acoustic flavor. The lyrics may be a bit somber but the music and the melody are of that happy-go-lucky ’80s variety. A nice juxtaposition.
This tune from Brooklyn’s The Drums has stayed at the top of my new music mix for over a week now. It’s instantly catchy and gives you the warm weather vibe that us East Coasters would love to experience more of. For now, the song will have to do…
Here’s a funny, children’s themed video re-telling of Keith Moon’s crazy lifestyle as the iconic drummer of The Who…on the night of his death. It’s based on the web book, which you can see here.

Over the weekend, I had a discussion with a friend about technology evolution as it pertains to media and how we are coming to a point in our culture where things are moving so fast that the time span between nostalgia for old technology and the reach for new technology is becoming shorter and shorter. An interesting article on Wired yesterday about the Music Industry’s conundrum. Here’s an excerpt:
“The digital music doubters could be right with the contention that advertising revenue can’t cover the costs of licensing music. Meanwhile, illegitimate free music sources continue to proliferate, rendering paid music subscriptions irrelevant for most music fans.”
Could this be the video of the year? If definitely gives my previous pick of the year, Man Man’s “Rabbit Habits”, a run for its money. Eh, it might just come in a close second. Awesome vid.
Anyone who has been reading this blog since the early days knows that I have a thing for Swedish bands. This new video from Sweden’s Museum of Bellas Artes features the breezy disco-pop track accompanied by youthful, abstract visuals. Have a look and grab the mp3 below…
Does Ken By Request live up to the hype? Can ANYTHING live up to the genius of that cover? I know one thing is clear…he ONLY takes requests! I have yet to listen to it, so tell me how it is in the comments.
