Check out the first trailer for Joann Sfar’s biopic about musical French icon Serge Gainsbourg, Serge Gainsbourg: Vie Héroïque (”A Life Heroic”). It’s in French, but it looks awesome.
I normally don’t go for songs that use AutoTune, unless they are comedy songs, but this JJ “cover” of the atrocious Lorentz & M.Sakarias song is beautiful. The purty horses don’t hurt either.
Sun Airway’s “Oh, Naoko” definitely gets my vote for one of the best songs of the year. Check out this awesome acoustic version Jon did at Art in the Age.
When Ólafur Arnalds is not writing beautiful, classical-inspired pieces such as this one, he is touring with Sigur Ros. Have a look at this hypnotic video for his newest tune…such a cool effect!
MGMT’s Andrew VanWyngarden said the following about the band’s new track that will be featured on their upcoming Congratulations album:
“It’s kind of a vampire-punk-rock song about finding Brian Eno in like a cathedral in Transylvania. He’s like a dark wizard. We originally asked him to produce the track, but he hadn’t heard of us.”
I’ll never get over the feeling of hearing that epic Star Wars intro music as a little boy. As the chills went up and down my spine, I knew I was about to go on the greatest adventure EVER with Luke, Leia, Chewy, Han and those two whimsical Droids. The visuals of The Greatest Story Ever Told were (and still are) absolutely mesmerizing and deeply emotional, but it was THE MUSIC that guided everything and made me believe in THE FORCE.
“Star Wars In Concert is a unique multi-media event featuring music from all six of John Williams’ epic Star Wars scores. Narrated live by Anthony Daniels (the actor who portrayed C-3PO in all six films), the production features a full symphony orchestra and choir, accompanied by specially edited footage from the films displayed on a three-story-tall, high-definition LED super-screen — one of the largest ever put on tour. The live music and film elements are synchronized in order to create a full multi-media, one-of-kind Star Wars experience.”
I believe there are still some tix left for the show and you can buy them HERE.
Additional photos and full tour schedule after the jump…
Sleigh Bells‘ self-released “Crown on the Ground” is a chart-topping pop song hijacked by a noise band. Play it at your next party and watch everyone joyfully wave goodbye to their eardrums.
Truth be told, I know that most of you steal albums. It’s cool, if you do, I won’t tell — promise. However, you may want to redeem yourself by helping to support an awesome band like Asobi Seksu tour across England in support of White Lies, AND do an intimate show tour in the US in January. They simply won’t make enough money to do both so they are kindly asking for your donations.
Their goal is to raise $7,500 by December 31 of this year. Each increment donated (ranging from $1 to $5,000) can get you an awesome prize from the band, the smallest plaedge ($1) will get you a digital download of one song from their upcoming acoustic album, ReWolf. The largest pledge ($5,000) will land you a private acoustic performance for you and your friends anywhere in the New York/Tri-State area.
I know very little about the history of Black Metal, but this new documentary looks super interesting. This winter Until the Light Takes Us will “tell the story of black metal. Part music scene and part cultural uprising, black metal rose to worldwide notoriety in the mid-nineties when a rash of suicides, murders, and church burnings accompanied the explosive artistic growth and output of a music scene that would forever redefine what heavy metal is and what it stands for to other musicians, artists and music fans world-wide.”
