A 23 minute supper with Genesis
Holy shit Genesis were so fucking weird in the 70's! This was when the band was at its purest, most artistic and daring, before that sissy 80's crap (ok ok i kind of dig 80's Genesis.) Peter Gabriel on vocals, Phil Collins on the cans. Unstoppable.
From 1971's Nursery Cryme to 1974's The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway the band mixed avant-garde psychedelia with performance art. Known to most as Prog-Rock, the music they created was often extended in length with multiple changes and epic solos. The 23 minute medley, entitled "The Supper's Ready" from their 1972 album Foxtrot is a carefully threaded quilt of...are you ready: folksy psychedelia, hard rock, vaudeville stylings, classical flourishes, jazz undertones and space balladry...phew! The subject matter ranges from love to war to Greek Mythology. Intense shit! See the amazing imagery and hear the epic sounds captured in this full 23 minute live video:
If this period of Genesis interests you, I suggest picking up:

Or, if just can't get enough of Gabriel-era Genesis, look into picking up the Genesis Archive Vol. 1 BoxSet
