Deer Tick: Infectious Alt-Country
I feel it necessary to share the music that is currently keeping me sane. Deer Tick (aka John McCauley and friends) based out of Providence, RI circulates through my studio frequently.
There is something incredibly sweet about the pairing of a homespun voice and a solid, following double bass. The rolling quality of the guitar work and rising and falling vocals is reminiscent of my mother's classic country and bluegress casettes for long car rides. Friends walk in and out while I'm humming along and ask for a copy of the album War Elephant, which was released in early September by Jana Hunter's Feow! Records of Houston, TX.
Look forward to a duets album in 2008 with McCauley and Jana Hunter.
In the meantime, here are two tracks for download - "Art Isn't Real (City of Sin)", arguably the apex of War Elephant, and an unmastered cut of "Ashamed" that is a testament to the simplicity of this music.
