Head to the Tropics with Abe Vigoda

The title of the lead-off track from LA-based Abe Vigoda’s debut album Skeleton is rather misleading. The lyrics on “Dead City/Waste Wilderness” fit, but the music is what you might call…tropical. Highly colorful and intense with flamboyant percussion and mumbled harmonies, it’s perfect music for a drunken walk on the beach. The rest of the album shares a loose, DIY aesthetic similar to their Smell brethren No Age. However, Skeleton has it’s own sound with a trippy, prog-like edge. It’s as if HEALTH and Animal Collective merged as one and recorded an album together in Hawaii. These guys are definitely up and coming, so check ‘em out!
Skeleton is out on 7/8 on Post Present Medium, but you can pre-order now from Insound. Be sure to catch the band this summer as they join No Age and High Places on tour. Check their MySpace for the dates. Oooh, ya stoppin by The Church in Philly on July 10th? I’ll be there in my fluorescent colored Jamz!
