"It’s Going To Happen" With The Undertones

Irish power-punks The Undertones came out with the single “It’s Gonna Happen” in 1981. This upbeat tune is about being stuck in a one-sided relationship that needs resolve. The drag of a situation is going to persist until a conscious decision end it. However, there might be more factors at play, as the last line of the verse admits, “stupid revenge is what’s making you stay”.
This song is blissfully vague, as pop music should be. This is one of my favorite non-punkish Undertones songs. The big fat saxophone and up-stroked guitar hints to the 2-tone ska of England’s Madness, which might not be too far off considering Undertones lead singer Feargal Sharkey would later collaboration with the group.

this was a song about the political situation in Ireland that at the time of the hungerstrike and was being played out on the streets ,it was o’neill’s first direct song about the troubles something that he had purposly choose not to do before , they actualy played this song on Top of the Pops on the night that Bobbt Sands died , where o’neill wore a black armband in respect of the dead hungerstriker , the irony was unreal , here was a pop band from derry singing a song directly related to what was on the news ,and the ignorance of what was happening being belted out to british teenagers , who danced and sang along
