King of the Divan: Plastic Bertrand's "Ca Plane Pour Moi"
"Ça Plane Pour Moi" is an irresistible New-Wave gem from Belgian singer Plastic Bertrand. It was originally recorded by UK singer Elton Motello, as a gay punk anthem, entitled "Jet Boy, Jet Girl", and both versions use the same backing track. However, Bertrand's French version is the one that most people recognize.
Do you remember that scene in 1985's National Lampoon's European Vacation when the Griswolds rush through the Louvre, and there is that quirky French punk song playing? Well, that's "Ça Plane Pour Moi" by Plastic Bertrand.
Get a load of the lyrics. They are bizarre, when translated into English:
Ok let's go, one morning
A babe came round to my house
She looked like a cellophane doll with a Chinese hairstyle
She was wearing a plaster and had a hangover
She drank my beer in a large rubber glass
Just like an Indian might do in his igloo
It's all working out for me...
Lookin' sexay, PB:
Unfortunately, it seems like no one online even carries a Best of PB these days. So, I have thrown in another PB mp3, in addition to "Ça Plane..." for your enjoyment. Let me know if you find any albums for purchase online!
