New Band Spotlight: MGMT (The Management)

New Band Spotlight: MGMT (The Management)

MGMT (The Management) are from Brooklyn, NY and their music is a strange and fulfilling blend of 70s prog-rock and newer psych-pop. Sure it has been done before, but these guys put their own twist on it composing epic songs with quirky lyrics and catchy sing-alongs. Producer Dave Fridmann (Mercury Rev, Flaming Lips) lends the music his trademark grandiose style, but it never intrudes on the quality of the songwriting. Chock-full of squelching and buzzing synthesizers, the song "Time to Pretend"is about accepting the inevitable as we get older. Depressing for some, hopeful for others. Either way it makes for good, thoughtful pop music.

MGMT's debut album Oracular Spectacular will be released on Columbia Records this fall and they can currently be seen on tour with Of Montreal.

Head over to their MySpace page, full of eyeballs, castles and donuts, to stream other cool songs and see the full tour schedule.
