New Music From David Byrne and Brian Eno: “Strange Overtones”

I have to say that I was nervous about this one. I hold both of these artists in very high regard, but after so many years could they pull it off or would it be a big disappointment? Thankfully, there is nothing disappointing about “Strange Overtones,” from their upcoming album Everything That Happens Will Happen Today. Yes, we are off to a good start.
The first “single” from Byrne and Eno’s first official collaboration since 1981’s experimental My Life in the Bush of Ghosts, finds them wandering into other-worldly territory once again. However, this time they are resurrecting their pop roots. “Strange Overtones” fuses a haunting 80’s style Talking Heads chorus with that flavorful, loopy World music groove that Byrne has consistently embraced over the years. Of course, Eno’s production is flawless, and there is even some noisy guitar noodling, to boot! Is that you Robert Fripp?!?
Everything That Happens Will Happen Today will be available in a multitude of formats on August 18th, via their website.
