Shel Silverstein: An Album for Adults
Did you know that Shel Silverstein was also a musician who recorded a fairly twisted country album? It's true! The Great Conch Train Robbery is not the record to give a kid just because it's a Shel Silverstein creation. No, no, not at all.
stick 'em up and gimme your shirt
Recorded in 1980, this country album showcases Silverstein's typical poetic prowess. His sandpaper and gravel vocal delivery is almost expected and you can imagine Silverstein drunkenly lounging on the boughs of his Giving Tree slurring his songs to passerby's. Here is my favorite track, "Quaaludes Again," and if you love Silverstein poetry, you will probably want to buy this record.
PS I have another 'lil tidbit of Silverstein trivia. Did you know that he was the original writer of "A Boy Named Sue," the tune Johnny Cash made famous? Take that one to Quizzo with ya!
