"It's The Love," from The Breeders' forthcoming Mountain Battles, is the most upbeat track from a disc with immense depth and diversity. It's one of few rockers among the rest of the record's elegantly atmospheric ditties.

The song recalls a stingy guitar hook similar to Dinosaur Jr.'s, "Feel the Pain". It's a laid-back distorted "alternative"-rock song, simply too sweet to deny.

Mountain Battles consistently hits the same icy-cool vein as their 2002's lo-fi landmark, Title TK, also produced by the illustrious Steve Albini. The Deal sisters sing without pretension, conducting quirky guitars with a frugal pallet and letting their delicate vocal beauty ring subtly throughout.

Mountain Battles is due out April 8th on 4AD.
