Sweet to the Beat: 5 Delicious Songs About Dessert!
Yes its Thanksgiving and yes I love me some turkey and stuffing, but my heart, taste buds, and stomach belong to sweets. Check out these awesome songs dedicated to the desserts that make us smile, even after we lose all of our teeth:
1. The Beatles - "Savoy Truffle" Not only did those 4 lads from London change teh face of popular music, but they also made millions of mouths water with this Harrison-penned tribute to Eric Clapton's chocolate addiction from The White Album. [Buy it]
2. Golden Smog - "Pecan Pie" Usually love songs are directed solely at a person, but not in this Jeff Tweedy tune. On Golden Smog's 1995 album, Down by the Old Mainstream, the Wilco frontman professed his love for a lady...and a slice of tasty pecan pie. [Buy it]
3. The Undertones - "Mars Bars" If Mars Co. was smart, they would make this their theme song. With fun lyrics like "There's glucose for energy/Caramel for strength/The chocolate's only there/To keep it the right length", this B-side from 1979 is sugary power-pop at its sweetest. [Buy it]
4. Tom Waits - "Chocolate Jesus" I don't believe in Jesus, no sir. But I do believe in chocolate...and this song from Tom's 1999 album Mule Variations is heavenly. [Buy it]
5. Beastie Boys - "Cookie Puss" If you lived on the East Coast during the late 70's/early 80's, then you are most likely familiar with Carvel's famous ice cream cakes. Cookie Puss (watch the commercial) was the company's staple birthday cake from outer-space and became the inspiration for this hilarious Beastie Boys prank call to the company from the group's 1983 Cookie Puss EP. Delicious indeed. Happy Thanksgiving every one!
