New Video: The xx – “VCR”
It’s melancholy, partially in black and white and there is fire in it. Yay FIRE!

Three cool bands are playing the same night in Philly, but guess what? You can easily see them all! Here’s how:
You can rock the f*ck out with Texas’ White Denim at their FREE Art in the Age in-store at 2pm, or see them at an early KFN show (probably 9:30-ish). Then hustle over to Voyeur (formerly Pure Nightclub) and see the disco-happy-proggers Phenomenal Hand Clap Band (11:30) who are opening for England’s newest blog phenoms The XX during Making Time.
Have a listen to all three bands below and do your best to catch them all live!
White Denim – “I Start to Run”
The XX – “VCR”
The Phenomenal Handclap Band – “15 to 20″
Philly’s Flufftronix takes the minimal and sultry sound of “Infinity” by this year’s best new band The xx and speeds it with an injection of industrial synths. Dubby, electro goodness.
Beautifully done. Grab their excellent s/t album here...may be the best of the year.

Admittedly, I am a little late getting into London’s The xx, in comparison with other blogs, but who really gives a shit, right? The fact is their minimalist, soulful electronic sounds are growing on me and I am becoming addicted. Boy/girl vocal trade-offs? Yes, please. Perhaps their intent was to create seductive, down-tempo music that slowly wins us over. In any case, it’s working…as are the two remixes by Astromoner and Lunice. The former is more acid-house and the latter more electro with some added glitchiness. Great stuff!
