THE REFRESHING PUNK OF NEW ZEALAND’S COOLIES

The Coolies are a 3 piece punk-rock group from a New Zealand. Since the members consists of all females, comparisons to X-Ray Spex or Bikini Kill are obvious in the best ways possible.

Imagine the youthful sounds of Be Your Own Pet if they weren’t trying so damn hard. The Coolies’ lo-fi recordings are fast and noisy, with insistent duel-female vocals leading them along.

I dug up this (presumably old) video of the Coolies playing a song about punk wild-man GG Allin at what seems to be a local DIY show. These girls are so freakin cute:

The Coolies have opened for The Gossip and have been featured on the Kill Rock Stars compilation, Fields and Streams.
