Not My Wedding Song: The Zombies "This Will Be Our Year"

I did not date any of these boys.

An ex-boyfriend of mine turned me onto The Zombies via this track. Apparently, it was his good friend's wedding song, and he found that to be compelling. I think I was supposed to take it as a hint. Instead, I went home immediately and downloaded Odessey and Oracle (Columbia Records, 1968).

Riding the wave of Beatle-dom in the 60's, The Zombies missed their due and are often buried beneath The Beatles Era sound. However, I'd argue that The Zombies are much more mellowed out with less hokey lyrics and vocals.

"This Will Be Our Year" has made it onto every sappy love mix CD I've made in the past four years, but hopefully will not be found at a wedding with my name on it anytime soon.
