Valentine's Day Bubblegum By The Banana Splits
The Banana Splits and Joey Levine (of about 17 yrs.), the voice behind it all
The music of The Banana Splits was the brainchild of bubblegum godfather, Joey Levine. His knack for flawless, sugary-sweet pop songs offered an escape from the political tensions of the late 1960's.
Similar to other "fake" bands of the era like the Archies and the Monkees, The Banana Splits were no different. Consisting of Joey Levine and session musicians, the band's music was marketed on the idea that the band members were characters from the children's television show by the same name.
Fleegle the beagle lays down some killer guitar tracks with mighty paws!
"I Enjoy Being A Boy (In Love With You" begins with Levine's blissfully surreal lyrics:
I live in a cucumber castle
on the bank of a cranberry sea
And starfish dance under my drawbridge
And black birds make nests in my tree
This song has all the ingredients for a successful Valentine's Day: plenty of candy and animal love.
Joey Levine's song writing career also includes, "Yummy, Yummy" (The Ohio Express), and famous television jingles like "Trust The Gorton's Fisher-man", "Who's that Kid With the Oreo Cookie", and "Sometimes You Feel Like A Nut" for Mounds/Almond Joy candy bars.
Since falling upon a compilation of classic bubblegum tunes entitled, 25 All-Time Greatest Bubblegum Hits I've been a turned on to tooth-rotting genre. Highly recommended for any pop-lover!
